CORONAVIRUS: 15 Countries Affected, Cote D’ivoire Tests First Case in Africa

Recent reports from CNN indicates that Ghana’s neighboring country, Cote d’Ivoire has begun investigations into a suspected case of coronavirus in a female student who arrived from China.

This student, yet to be named by health officials, is the first person to be tested for the virus on the continent. The deadly coronavirus is now in 15 countries including; China, USA, Japan, Australia and Singapore.

Currently, over 3,000 people have been infected, with 80 persons reported dead from the coronavirus.

According to healthcare officials, it is believed that the virus is spread through coughing, sneezing and touching of infected surfaces.

Precautionary measures

  1. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol hand sanitizer.
  2. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  4. Stay home if you are sick.
  5. When you cough or sneeze,
  6. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  7. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces like doorknobs, tables, chairs etc

The general public is also advised to avoid any animal (dead or alive) brought from affected areas, particularly China and to basically stay away from any animal products such as fish, seafood or any uncooked meat.
