Coronavirus: Evacuate 170 Ghanaian Students in Wuhan now – Okudzeto Ablakwa
Member of Parliament (MP) for the North Tongu constituency in the Volta Region, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged the Akufo-Addo led government to immediately evacuate Ghanaian students in China in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak as a precautionary measure.
According to the MP, government should act expeditiously to protect its citizens in China, especially some 170 students who are reportedly stranded in Wuhan – the core of the coronavirus outbreak.
Expressing his thoughts via social media on Thursday, Okudzeto Ablakwa advised the government to emulate the worthy African evacuation examples of; Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania and Tunisia.
He added that, the response of government in this emergency situation will show how much premium it places on Ghanaian lives.
“It is in situations such as this one that a people assess how much value their national leaders place on their lives”
The MP reiterated that, considering other major evacuation missions successfully undertaken by previous governments, there is “no justification for abandoning a few hundreds of our compatriots in Wuhan, China”
Over 400 persons have reportedly died from coronavirus in China since its outbreak in December 2019 with about 20,000 cases recorded.
The World Health Organisation declared the disease a global emergency after over 150 cases were confirmed in other countries with the Philippines recording one death.
