Corruption Allegations: DCE for Afigya Kwabre South out with facts
District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South in the Ashanti Region, Adu Poku Christian, has described the corruption allegations against him and the Assembly by the Quarry Drivers Association in the area as fabrications and an attempt to create tension in the District.
The Quarry Drivers’ Association of Buoho in the Afigya Kwabre South recently petitioned the Ashanti Regional Executives of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the President Akufo-Addo led government to watch the activities of the District Chief Executive with caution. They described him as cruel and a corrupt official who’s corrupt acts are gradually sending the party out of power.
According to the drivers who claim to be ardent supporters of the NPP party, the DCE has been using his position to maneuver his way into selfish riches without thinking about others.
In an interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh, the Vice Chairman of the Association, Mr. Prince Gyabaah, reported that Adu Opoku Christian and the Assembly are currently issuing funeral receipts to members of the association when they pay tax an act which is illegal and unrecognized.
“In our quest to enquire why the assembly is issuing funeral reciepts instead of the Assembly’s official receipt, the DCE has ordered for the arrest of our members and currently being hunted the with macho men”.
Howeve, Hon. Adu Poku Christian or APC as he is popularly callled in the District said he classifies the allegations as mear fallacies and an attempt to destabilize the peace the people of Afigya Kwabre are enjoying now.
The DCE stated that the assembly has no business with the Quarry Drivers’ Association, but with the Northern Zone Quarry Operators Association where the operators have agreed to pay an amount of Ghc5.00 per cubic tones to support the overall development of the Assembly as part of their social responsibility support. He supported his response with a signed agreement.
“The funds are being managed and approved by a five member board of trustees of the fund headed by the president of the northern zone quarry operators association which the DCE is not a member,” he stated.
He said the receipt which the drivers are claiming to be a funeral reciept is a reciept barring the name and logo of the Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly and that the monies taken as revenue from the operators does not go into his personal account but is being disbursed into three different accounts which includes the business operating account of the assembly, walfare account of the quarry operators and the board of trustees account, where Ghc1.00 each goes to both business operating permit and the welfare accounts of the operators and Ghc3.00 goes to the board of trustees spearheading the social responsibility projects of the association.
He advised the drivers as well as the general public to always seek clarification on issues before going out with false information as the doors of the assembly are always open for everyone in search of official information.
