In its quest to protect the lives of the citizenry, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has organized a practical demonstration session on the preparation of hand sanitizers to curb the coronavirus pandemic from spreading from human to human in Ghana.
The gesture forms part of measures being put in place by the government to curb the rapid spread of the COVID-19 which has taken the lives of a lot of people across the world and infected people in several other countries including Ghana.
Speaking to the media shortly after the demonstration session, sector minister, Cynthia Morrison, expressed worry about the virus which has become a global pandemic. She says it will take the collective efforts of all countries to fight the menace.
“Government in this regard has put in place the needed measures and structures to help address the pandemic hence the gender ministry with support from government and other stakeholders is putting in place frantic preparations in the usage of hand sanitizers for the public,” she stated.
According to her, the hand sanitizers will be distributed freely. She announced that some unscrupulous people have taken advantage of the fear and panic of the pandemic to sell the hand sanitizers at exorbitant prices; cashing in on unsuspecting people across the country. She said the development is very unfortunate.
In the demonstration process, it came to light that carbolic soap, salty water and alata soap can also be used as alternatives to hand sanitizers when used to washing hands thoroughly.
She advised the public to avoid hand shaking and use tissues to cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing in public, insisting that the virus has the tendency of spreading rapidly from human to human. She again hinted that no vaccine has yet been approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the cure of the COVID-19.
The Minister advised the public not to entertain fear. She urged all to apply the basic rules governing the usage of the hand sanitizers and other related items, explaining further that it is the surest way to stay healthy in the wake of the coronavirus which is causing a lot of havoc around the world.
