Applauding the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the decisive intervention in the combat of the global disease, the Women’s Commissioner indicated that there is so far no decisive intervention from the government aimed at helping women and children in the country.

She said almost all the interventions announced by the government are generic, hence her call.

She said women and children are the most vulnerable in such times and it is very imperative on the part of government to announce support packages for women and children.

Speaking to The New Independent Newspaper in an exclusive interview at her residence in Accra, she decried the arbitrary increase in preventive items such as hand sanitizers, gloves, nose masks and the rest, asking “how can the average mother afford these for herself, let alone her children?”

She asserted that, most women live below the poverty line and thus are incapacitated to protect herself and her children from this disease, more so when a lot of women are single parents.

She therefore called on the President to act decisively and swiftly in this direction to avert calamity should the unexpected happen.

She further called on civil society, philanthropists and the international community to come to the aid of women and children in these difficult moments.

She expressed confidence in Ghanaian medical professionals to take us through these hard times; and encourage pharmaceutical and herbal medicine producers to join the search for a permanent cure of the disease.
