CSIR solicit Israeli government’s support to train staff
The Directors of Six Institutes under the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) led by the Director-General of the Council, Prof. Victor Kwame Agyemang, has called on the Government of Israel to help build the capacity of their staff in Research and Development.
They want the Israeli government to establish a Scholarship programme and Technology Training Center at the Council to train staff as Agricultural Extension Officers, Technologists and Laboratory Technologists.
Prof. Agyemang made this appeal when the Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Her Excellency, Shani Cooper-Zubida visited the head office of the Council on Friday to strengthen the bilateral relationship between both countries.
Prof. Agyemang mentioned areas such as Food Security, Water Resource Management, Technology Development and Transfer Center (TDTC) and Food Processing that needs collaboration with other countries to improve upon Research and Development (R&D).
The Israeli Ambassador, Shani Cooper-Zubida described the visit as an opportunity to address and offer support towards the development of the Council and the country.
She mentioned that the Israel government is already working with the Ghana government to promote a sound innovative ecosystem in the country, stating that, both countries are trying to build together a programme on innovation that would bridge the gap.
“This is work-in-progress programme for start-ups in which entrepreneurs from Israel are working with Ghanaian business start-ups to offer them some innovative and skills ideas,” she said.
The Israeli Ambassador urged the Ghana government to build a strong and resilient economy through good innovative ecosystem because that would make it possible to transform the economy from a developing to a developed country faster than expected.
“We appreciate the Ghana Beyond Aid programme because understanding such an initiative can make Ghana step forward to build a resilient economy to become a developed country,” she added.
She appreciated the passionate appeal made by the Director-General of CSIR and promised to extend their concerns to the Israeli government in order to strengthen the collaboration between them.
