INTERIOR MINISTER, you must quickly resolve the case of curfew hours cyanide smuggling into Bawku before the Youth take action

An Owula Mangortey observation

I am a Citizen.

I brought to the attention of the Minister of Interior the obnoxious act of conniving and condoning the smuggling of fifty (50) mini drums of cyanide to Bawku during curfew hours on 1st December, 2021.

Let me say a big shame to some of the Bawku Security Chiefs who are sending inexcusable reports to their Accra HQs and playing blame games on the circumstances surrounding the arrest of truck number BF 2729 D8 O3 at the Missiga “curfew security barrier” on 1st Decrmber, 2021.

I salute the patriotic Security Personnel who effected the arrest and their “no-nonsense in Bawku pledge” bosses who stood firmly behind them.

I am calling on the Interior Minister to work fast to resolve the “quarrel” or unease among the Bawku Security Chiefs and Customs before the Bawku Youth take action against the Ghana Customs Service.

Bawku Youth are asking questions

The Bawku Youth have started asking questions at their Caucus meetings.

“Why will Customs allow importation of cyanide to be used as a weapon,” they asked.

“Does it mean Customs has been allowing smuggling of arms and ammunition in the night for our enemies in the conflict,” others wondered.

Cyanide smuggled through Polimakom border post in 2020

Other sister security agencies confirm that this is not the first time cyanide has been smuggled into Ghana through the Polimakom border post. According to a Souce, a quality of cyanide was found among smuggled goods, which eventually ended up with the smugglers.

The Source stated that, “in the year 2020, I was on duty at Pulimakum and we arrested 17 mini drums of cyanide and handed it over to the Customs. Ask them where did the drums of cyanide end up? The goods was released to the smuggler, called Alhaji (name withheld). He is having a house in Ghana side and in Togo.”

Alleged Customs connivance with the Alhaji (name withheld) to rob the State of Revenue

Another Security Source added some pointers to Customs’ conspiracy and connivance with the Alhaji to deprive the State of import revenue.

She stated that, “they are doing a lot of things, the Alhaji will import goods and he will go and clear them as transit goods to Burkina Faso and he will not pay any duty, they will put a tracking device on and when it gets to kulungugu the customs will remove the device and the trucks will turn back to Pulimakom and off load the goods for free without paying anything to government coffers.”

Please, tell the Military, Police, DI and NIB looking for Owula Mangortey in Bawku that they can find me at the Osofo Mame chop bar near the NIB offices at exactly 11 am each day, except Sundays.

I shall return.
