Tension is gradually brewing at Akyem Asamankese in the Eastern Region following a chieftaincy dispute which is likely to spark confusion in the area, sources close to Bryt FM news has revealed.
The source indicate that, Osabarima Adu Darko III is planning to celebrate the Oboadwan festival which is expected to be officially launched on Thursday, August 15, 2019, this is despite a pending chieftaincy issue before the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council.
However, Barima Pobi Asomaning II, Chief of Akyem Awurasa has warned Osabarima Adu Darko III of his actions since his claim of being the legitimate chief of the community has been disputed.
At a press conference on Monday, August 12, Barimah Asomaning III expressed worry at the attitude of the self acclaimed chief which according to him, can lead to chaos. He said he is prepared and ready to face Osabarima Darko III on any platform, be it violent or peaceful.
According to him, the High court had earlier ruled in favour of him but the matter was sent to the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Judiciary by Osabarima Asomaning III and it is awaiting ruling. For thisreason hhe doesn’t understand why Adu Darko is still bent on celebrating the festival.
He insisted, he will resist any attempt by the the chief to celebrate the festival as he also has most of the youth behind him.
Barimah Asomaning III therefore challenged the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area and other stakeholders to intervene in the matter before it creates unexpected happens.
The late chief of Asamankese, Osabarima Kwaku Amoah III passed on about some five years ago but the community is yet to find a replacement.
