The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West, Hon. Rev. Kweku Addo, has expressed his commitment to improving healthcare facilities in his constituency following a visit to the Dansoman Polyclinic. His unannounced visit, accompanied by his entourage, underscored his dedication to modernizing key infrastructure, particularly the healthcare sector.

Dansoman, a suburb in the Greater Accra Region, is one of the largest estates in West Africa. The Dansoman Polyclinic, established during the tenure of Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has undergone expansions over the years. However, it remains inadequate and poorly equipped, making it difficult for medical staff to provide optimal care in a conducive environment.

In an interview with GhanaNewsOnline, Hon. Rev. Addo acknowledged the urgent need for improvement at the facility.

“As the newly elected MP, I recognize the importance of ensuring decent healthcare for my constituents. Our visit today confirmed two key observations—while the staff are doing their best, the facility itself is in dire need of attention. The space is too small, and everything is crammed together, making it difficult for both healthcare workers and patients,” he stated.

He reiterated his campaign promise to advocate for a full-fledged hospital in Dansoman, emphasizing that the polyclinic’s current state does not meet the needs of the growing population.

“During our visit, we met a woman from Kasoa who frequently visits the Dansoman Polyclinic for antenatal care. Unfortunately, the facility cannot handle deliveries, meaning that expectant mothers receive care here but must be transferred elsewhere when they are due. This is unacceptable,” Hon. Rev. Addo lamented.

He also pointed out that a maternity block project, which began a few years ago, remains incomplete. He assured constituents that he would engage with regional and municipal health directors to explore ways to complete the project and make it fully operational.

“My hope is to secure a better healthcare facility for the people of Dansoman. The current situation, where male and female patients are separated only by a screen in a single room, is unacceptable. Dansoman deserves better,” he asserted.

Hon. Rev. Addo commended the staff of the polyclinic for their dedication and professionalism despite the facility’s challenges. He reaffirmed his commitment to engaging all relevant stakeholders to enhance healthcare delivery in the Ablekuma West constituency.

“We have just taken office, and as soon as the municipal structures are fully set up, I will work tirelessly to ensure better healthcare services for my people,” he concluded.
