The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Tongu in the Volta Region, Mr. Thomas Moore Zonyrah, has firmly denied allegations of misconduct in the allocation of premix fuel to fisherfolk in the district. He described the accusations, reportedly from some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as baseless and politically motivated.

According to the allegations, Mr. Zonyrah and certain New Patriotic Party (NPP) officials have been accused of diverting and selectively distributing premix fuel to favored fisherfolk at landing sites within the district. Responding to these claims in an interview with Soireenews on Monday, October 28, 2024, Mr. Zonyrah labeled the accusations as false and malicious.

“I do not directly control the sale of premix fuel in the district and have not even visited the landing site at Mafi-Dugame where the fuel arrives,” he stated, dismissing the notion of any personal involvement in the fuel allocation process. Mr. Zonyrah further clarified that the premix fuel products do not pass through the landing beach site for sale to fisherfolk, as alleged.

The DCE believes the accusations are part of a longstanding campaign to tarnish his reputation, driven by certain individuals within the NDC. “These falsehoods are merely attempts to mislead the public and incite resentment against me and the Assembly,” he said.

Describing the allegations as “frivolous, hollow, and lacking merit,” Mr. Zonyrah urged the public to disregard them in the interest of peaceful coexistence and the continued progress of Central Tongu.
