Democracy Hub Demo case: Court declines Ama Governor’s application to travel out of Ghana

Lawyer for Ama Governor submitted to the court that her client had an engagement out of the jurisdiction from October 13 to 18, hence prayed the court to grant her leave.

The Accra Circuit Court has denied an application by Elorm Ababio, also known as Ama Governor for a trip out of the jurisdiction.

In court on Friday, October 11, 9 of the 52 Democracy Hub protesters turned up for the continuation of their case.

When the case was called, prosecution led by Amanda Awadi, a State Attorney indicated to the court that they had filed their disclosures but had outstanding ones to file. She hence prayed for an adjournment to be able to do so.

Lawyer for Ama Governor submitted to the court that her client had an engagement out of the jurisdiction from October 13 to 18, hence prayed the court to grant her leave.

The lawyer also wanted the charge of assault on a public officer struck out.

Another lawyer representing second accused, Emmanuel Gyan made an application for charges against his client to be struck out since he wasn’t part of the protest on the said day.

Responding to the applications, the prosecution indicated that they were unaware of the development since it had not been brought to their attention.

In her ruling after hearing both sides, presiding judge Evelyn Asamoah indicated that lawyers of Ama Governor had not formally filed their application and hence urged them to do so. He thus denied the application.

She then ordered the prosecution to file their witness statements and adjourned the case to October 30.

Benjamin Akuffo who was also arrested after going to visit the protesters who were in custody also appeared before the court after he was granted bail.

The prosecution was again directed to file their disclosures and witness statements. He is also to reappear before the court on October 30.
