District Health Insurance Offices undergo Yearly Performance Review
Management from the sixteen (16) districts offices of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has held a workshop on the first quarter Performance Review of the Scheme for the year 2020 in the Greater Accra Region. It is aimed at taking stock of the operations and activities of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and accessing its performance, successes and the way forward.
Speaking to the media on this year’s performance review, the Greater Accra Regional Director of NHIS, Mr. Bernard Brown said pragmatic measures have been put in place to identify active membership cards of clients that are in operation and to find innovative ways to expand the scheme by adding new card for clients.
According to him, the district offices have embarked on data collection of clients as part of efforts to have complete information to enable the various offices achieve their targets and benchmarks. He explained that the exercise will also help them identify issues and challenges in the demography of the district.
He said there has been a marginal increase of about 85% in mobile renewal cases in NHIS this year hence the gesture to reduce the pressure of attending to clients at their respective district offices in the region.
Throwing more light on the preparations in relation to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), Mr. Bernard Brown said adequate consumables and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) have been put in place to ensure that staff and clients adhere to the protocols of frequent hand washing, applying alcohol base hand sanitizer and wearing of face masks at all times in line of duty.
“Workers were tasked to work on shift system as part of the measures to observe social distancing which lead to an increase in the hours of work as clients are also educated online of the renewal of cards,” he added.
On her part, the Greater Accra Regional, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NHIA, Lydia Adjei-Tutu said the performance review of the district offices will help access their targets, achievements and fill in the necessary gaps should there be any identified challenges.
According to her, the yearly review will add on to the progress of work at the District level of the NHIS and address the way forward.
Participants also expressed their profound gratitude and commended the government for the able manner PPEs are supplied to all health institutions and the general support for frontline workers.
