Twenty-five out of thirty-four persons who died in the gory accident that occurred at Dampoase near Komenda on Monday dawn have been identified by their families at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue.
The corpses have been released to the families for preservation and burial.
Nine others, however, cannot be identified.
Kasapa FM’s Yaw Boagyan reported that thirty people out of fifty-seven who got injured have been discharged and have been sent Wednesday morning.
Twenty-seven are still on admission.
The Hospital authorities are still pleading to the general public to help identify the dead persons.
The gory accident, which occurred at around midnight on Monday, January 13 involved two buses, one said to be traveling from Takoradi to Accra – with registration number GR 5704-18 – and the other – with registration number GN 3780-10 – in the opposite direction.
The Takoradi-bound bus tried an overtaking but in an attempt collided with the opposite bus.
Both drivers died instantly with one of them having his head completely chopped off. The rest of his body was trapped in the mangled vehicle.
It took the effort of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) from Cape Coast to rescue some of the injured while the mutilated bodies of the dead passengers were conveyed in vehicles to the same Interbetten at Cape Coast.
