Mr. Emmanuel Okai Mintah, Chairman of the Youth Working Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged Christians not to bear a grudge against the running mate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for his recent comment suggesting that ” even God sleeps and likely to sleep on a 24-hour night shift.”

Speaking in an interview on the “Ghana Yensom” morning show with Odeyeeba Kofi Essuman on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, Mr. Mintah argued that Dr. Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as “Napo,” adopted Christianity for political reasons.

“Napo is not a devout Christian. His lack of understanding of biblical teachings is why he does not realize that God does not sleep,” Mr. Mintah stated.

He added that if Napo were truly familiar with the Bible, he would know the scripture that calls on Christians to “pray without ceasing” and would not have made such a statement, which seemed to mock the NDC’s proposed 24-hour economy.

“As a Christian trained by the Pentecost Church, I know that our Lord never sleeps but keeps watch over us, even when we are asleep,” he continued.

Mr. Mintah criticized the selection of Napo as a running mate, suggesting it was a mismatch because he does not have a firm grasp of Christian teachings.

“It is concerning that someone like Napo is claiming to be a Christian and is not familiar with the Bible, which is fundamental to all believers,” he said.

He also called on well-meaning Christians to forgive Napo, stating, “He knows not what he is saying.”

Regarding the NDC’s vision for a 24-hour economy, Mr. Mintah announced that the party’s youth wing would launch a series of educational programmes though theatre to help the youth to understand the NDC’s plans for job creation.

He encouraged young people to compare the NDC’s youth manifesto with that of the NPP, asserting that the NDC offers more robust plans for youth development.
