The Minister for Business Development, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal has presented 30 tricycles worth over GH₵100, 000 to the Northern Regional Communication Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), five constituencies and some youth groups.
The tricycles which are the Minister’s personal donation are expected to generate revenue to support the activities of the party at the constituency and regional levels.
The Regional Communication Team of the party received eight tricycles, Tamale South, Tamale Central, Tamale North and Sagnarigu constituencies received one tricycle each while the Kumbungu constituency received two.
Some members of three youth groups affiliated to the party also received one tricycle each.
At a brief ceremony to hand over the tricycles to the party, Dr. Awal urged the beneficiaries to put the tricycles to good use to benefit the party in the region.
He said similar donations would be done in other constituencies in the coming months.
“I bought these motorbikes personally for over GH₵100,000 to support NPP constituencies and the regional communication team. The regional communication team does very well in explaining government policies and programmes to the people but they have been handicapped in terms of resources. So these are commercial bikes. The commercial bikes will raise the funds so that they don’t get too tired of lack of funds,” he explained.
Dr. Awal urged the communication team to continue to explain the policies of the government to the people.
He entreated members of the NPP to remain united behind President Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP government to ensure victory in next year’s elections.
“I want to reassure everybody that under Nana Akufo-Addo our president and the vice-president, nobody will be left behind in terms of development. I want you to unite behind the president and the vice. Let’s unite to bring development to the people. We cannot win the elections without unity. Please unite, support your regional executives, your constituency executives, your parliamentary candidates and Members of Parliament. Support president Akuffo Addo and the government to make Ghana a better place for you,” he appealed.
The Minister said the prudent policy measures undertaken by the government had stabilized the macroeconomic environment, adding that government’s focus was to transition from stability to growth.
Dr Awal added that the government will, next year disburse about GH₵10 million to young entrepreneurs in Northern Ghana under the Presidential Business Support programme to help grow their businesses.
The regional executives of the NPP and other beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the minister for the gesture and appealed to him to do more to help the party in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the regional executives, the regional secretary of the party, Alhaji Alhassan Sibidow thanked the Minister and implored constituencies which did not receive the tricycles to stay calm as the Minister works to secure more tricycles.
