Members of Parliament (MP) on the Government Assurance Committee in Parliament, were left stranded on Wednesday morning after the Minister for Energy, Matthew Opoku Prempeh failed to meet them as agreed.

The Manhyia MP and Minister was slated to appear before the Committee to answer questions concerning some assurances he made on the floor of Parliament on his work as Energy Minister.

The meeting was expected to start at 9am this morning Tuesday April 30.

But hours after members of the Committee gathered at the august House for this exercise this morning, the Minister was yet to show up.

As at 12 noon, members had no clue the whereabouts of the dentist.

He had also not communicated to the Committee what had caused the delay or whether he will be able to appear before them.

Chairman of the Committee Farouk Aliu Mahama, who could have provided information on the Minister, was also nowhere to be found.

Reports said son of the late Vice President Aliu Mahama had traveled to Tamale in the Northern Region but he was caught up in a flight delay to Accra.

It is unclear what exactly the Committee was going to ask the Minister but it is believed he is going to be questioned about the endless power outages popularly known as ‘dumsor’.

Some members on the Committee told the media Dr Opoku Prempeh later sought the permission of the Chief Director that he could not honour his promise to meet them.

He assured the Chief Director he was going to delegate one of his deputies to appear before the Committee in his stead.

But it is uncertain if members will allow for such arrangement because it was the Minister himself that made the assurance on the floor of Parliament. At the time of filing this report, MPs were still waiting for chairman and MP for Yendi, Farouk Aliu Mahama.
