Dzemeni Tongor: Law Enforcement Unit destroys Large Wee Farms
A special operation carried out by the Volta Region and the law enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service led by the Director in charge of Drug Law Enforcement at the CID Headquarters in Accra, Supt. Daniel Selorm Kukporti have successfully destroyed large acres of cultivated land of cannabis in the South Dayi enclave.
Supt. Selorm Kukporti said the Police Law enforcement Unit in-charge of drugs is poised to deal with recalcitrant drug peddlers in the system without fear or favour.
The three joint operation law enforcement units from the National, Regional and Peki District Police Command acting upon a tip off and intelligence gathering, identified Torgorme near Peki as being a safe haven for cultivation of large hectres of cannabis otherwise known as India-Hemp.
It took the 60 armed police personnel 45 minutes drive from Asikuma junction before walking for 2 houra to get to the farm.
Over 100 acres of cultivated cannabis farm was discovered however police were able to destroy only 30 acres in the process and has also arrested two suspects, 63 year old Michael Sakite and 39 year old Roland Kofi Akoto.
Supt. Daniel Selorm Kukporti stressed that the police would not relent in their efforts to destroy all cannabis farms and have owners arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
Supt. Selorm Kukporti advised members of Torgorme Community to change their mind-set into cultivating food crops instead of illegal crops like India hemp.
The Police are however, appealing to the general public to volunteer information regarding illegal activities in their communities.
