Anti-LGBTQI+ Bill: We are ready for any legal battle – Sam George

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ningo-Prampram constituency, has said that they are standing by for any legal battle that may arise as a result of the passage of the anti-gay bill.

According to Samuel Nartey George, the bill which is before Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee, will be passed adding that it is a fight that is not for only Ghana, but Africa and the rest of the world.

“And I have heard a lot of the principalities say that they are waiting for us in court. They are well trained but we are more than ready, we are more than ready for that battle in court.

Because you see Randy, the first thing we will ask in the Supreme Court is, how do you give rights to a group of people who are undetermined, they are amorphous, they are like amoeba they have no shape, have no boundaries.

When you say give Dangbe people right, it is a defined group, you know what makes us Dangbe people.

When you say give doctors a certain rights, you know what qualifies you to be a doctor”the lawmaker said.

He said their case if any would be dead on arrival because the LGBTQI+ community, are people who are undetermined whose activities keep changing with no boundary.

“This group is not just a collation of several alphabets but they have a sigh + meaning they determinate so what makes up the plus.

But for me this is a battle for our culture, it is battle for the future of our kids, it is a battle for unborn generations.

As far as I am concerned, this process will continue in Parliament. Parliament will resumes on Tuesday 26 and I am sure the Speaker will give directions and directives on how this should go but I am optimistic that we get the job done”, the outspoken MP said.

He admitted the ‘fight’ has been his major battle since becoming a politician.

“Coming up against these academic principalities and legal powers, this clearly by far has been the biggest battle I have been up against in my short political career.

But Randy this is something I am extremely convinced about, something I am convicted, it is something I am confident we will be victorious.

It is not my fight, it is our fight. I may appear to be a face for it, I may appear to be the arrowhead for it but this is a fight that even transcends even Ghana, this is a fight the African continent has taken on, this is a fight that individuals in Europe and America has taken on”, he said on the Good Morning Ghana show on Thursday.

He added “Two days ago, Joe Biden had to issue a statement saying the US government was worried about a number of anti-LGBT legislations in state senates in the statement parliament in the US because there is a huge push back against it in the US itself. It is a big fight but it is not just a fight for us today but our children and our children’s children”.
