Economic Crisis: Government spending has been prudent, Says Bawumia
“My view, as I have stated, is that let us bring down government expenditure between 3 to 5 percent. I believe that I can run a government with 50 ministers rather than what we are doing today.”
Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has dismissed allegations of reckless spending by the Akufo-Addo administration. He emphasized that the NPP government has managed funds prudently, investing in long-term projects for the country’s benefit.
Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision for a more efficient government during the 8th Ghana CEOs Summit in Accra on Monday, May 27. He stated his intention to run the government with just 50 ministers to reduce public expenditure. He stressed the need for the government to cut spending by 3 to 5 percent.
“The networking of the hospitals—you know, Ghana.gov—all of these things have been spearheaded. So the government is not uploading and spending upfront. And I want us to apply this model,” he said.
Dr. Bawumia reiterated his commitment to fiscal prudence, saying, “My view, as I have stated, is that let us bring down government expenditure between 3 to 5 percent. I believe that I can run a government with 50 ministers rather than what we are doing today.”
