The agreement symbolizes a shared vision for a sustainable and prosperous future, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges.
In a significant development, the African Union Economic Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Accra. The signing took place on the sidelines of the #ECOSOCC20 celebrations, marking a milestone in the partnership between the two organizations.
The MoU was signed by Khalid Boudali, Presiding Officer of ECOSOCC, and Oliver Röpke, President of EESC. The agreement symbolizes a shared vision for a sustainable and prosperous future, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in addressing global challenges.
Mr. William Carew, Head of the ECOSOCC Secretariat, highlighted the significance of the MoU, stating, “This MoU is not just a document but a symbol of our shared vision for a sustainable and prosperous future. Reflecting on our milestone, I recall the successful engagement in the EU relationship, especially the ‘EU Africa Economic and Social Stakeholders Network’ meeting in Addis Ababa in June 2023. This strategic discussion has significantly contributed to shaping the framework we are formalizing today.”
Khalid Boudali emphasized the collective commitment embodied by the MoU, noting, “This MoU signifies our commitment to addressing global challenges such as migration, climate change, and peace and security. By empowering non-state actors and fostering ongoing dialogue with civil societies, the private sector, and local stakeholders, we aim to create a more sustainable and inclusive future.”
Oliver Röpke echoed these sentiments, highlighting the shared values and goals of the partnership. “Our partnership with ECOSOCC is built on shared values and goals, such as promoting economic and social development and enhancing civil society engagement. This MoU will enable us to strengthen cooperation, share knowledge, and work together towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union Agenda 2063,” he remarked.
Following the signing ceremony, a press conference was held to discuss the implications of the MoU and outline future collaborative efforts between ECOSOCC and EESC.
