The Managing Editor of one of Ghana’s most popularly read online news portals – ghananewsonline.com.gh, Mr Jeorge Wilson Kingson, has accused some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Volta Region of sabotaging the development agenda of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to the controversial and frank speaking media practitioner, it is the responsibility of these government officials who are the constitutionally mandated representatives of the President at the local government level to engage the community in educative programs and on the achievements of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

“However, the situation has been very terrible, especially in the Volta Region, and that is why i strongly suspect that there is a grand agenda by some of these MMDCEs to sabotage the work of the President,” he stated.

Mr Wilson Kingson said this on Tuesday morning in an interview with Stephen Tetteh on Lukusi Radio 96.1 Mhz at Golokuati in the Afadzato South district. His reaction was in connection with reports that government officials in the Volta Region have refused to avail themselves to media houses when given the opportunity to come and explain the government’s policies to the people.

He opined that the government officials are doing so due to their lack of appreciation of the role of the media in the national development agenda.

“Indeed, there is a need for these officials to come and educate the public but they are optimistic of the Victory of the NPP and so they are resorting to total sabotage. Either they don’t know or are clearly underrating the role that the media can play in political campaigns,” he noted.
