Efua Ghartey makes history as first female GBA president

Efua Ghartey has been elected as the first female president of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).

Her election marks a significant breakthrough in a field traditionally dominated by men, and her victory is seen as a pivotal moment for gender equality within the legal sector.

Mrs. Ghartey’s election, achieved with 1,208 votes against her opponent Kwadzo Dzakpasu’s 1,060, is celebrated as a triumph for women in law, paving the way for future female leaders.

Her journey to this leadership position has been characterised by unwavering dedication to the legal profession, where she has earned a reputation as a fierce advocate for justice and a respected voice among her peers.

Joining Mrs. Ghartey in the new leadership of the GBA are Baffour Gyau, elected as General Secretary, and Auralius Awuku, chosen as Assistant Secretary.

Saviour Kodzi retained his position as Public Relations Officer (PRO), with Lawrencia Adika elected as Assistant PRO.

This dynamic leadership team is expected to bring fresh perspectives and drive new initiatives within the association.
