Ekow Ewusi petitions Akufo-Addo to remove UCC governing council chairman
According to the NPP MP, the conduct of the UCC Governing Council Chairman is affecting the smooth running of the University.
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Horace Ekow Ewusi, has petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove Professor Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi from his position as the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).
According to the NPP MP, the conduct of the UCC Governing Council Chairman is affecting the smooth running of the University.
“I humbly write to bring to your attention the disturbing conduct of the Chairperson of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi, which is affecting the smooth running of the University and further petition your high office to investigate same and further humbly request for his removal.” Horace Ekow Ewusi said in a four (4) pages petition.
“This request is being made as a final resort after numerous efforts by the eminent of the community, including myself to request him to conduct himself as a seasoned statesman and responsible Chairperson of a highly esteemed institution as the University of Cape Coast has proved futile. Although the Chairman may be seen as a party person and professional, his conduct clearly demonstrates that he is seeking a personal agenda rather than the one that he was brought in for which is the collective interest of the University thereby affecting our chances of winning the seat,” The petition added.
Among other things, the MP listed: dictatorship at council, Attack on the Vice-Chancellor, Failure to follow due process, Failure to respect Leadership, Conflict of interest and Initiator of disharmony as the conduct of the UCC Governing Council in the petition.
“Your Excellency, I am compelled to request the immediate removal of Prof. Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi as the Chairperson of the UCC Governing Council in the interest of the University. This measure will help to restore peace on the University’s Campus, create a favourable environment for the faculty of and staff members and for a successful campaign in the December 2024 elections.” Part of the petition read.
The petition comes after Professor Harold S. Amonoo-Kuofi in a notice alleged that the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, has been terminated.
“Please note that the purported renewal/extension of your appointment as Vice-Chancellor at the Council’s meeting on the 28th of July 2023, for a term of two (2) years effective 1st August 2024, is void and consequently same is revoked as it breaches the University’s Statutes on renewal of appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.” The notice read.
