Security Minister, Albert Kan Dapaah, has urged political parties and other stakeholders to uphold unity as the principal value that should guide our actions during and after the December election.
Speaking in parliament during a presentation on Ghana’s security state, Kan Dapaah said “…it will be self-defeating and meaningless to pursue our political interest at the detriment of the state.”
The minister said there have been many false notions of insecurity, which has become more pronounced as the country approaches the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. This false notion of insecurity, according to him stems from the deliberate politicization of issues of national security in the country
“An assessment of recent developments in the political atmosphere reveals that the false notion of insecurity is fueled by some politicians. These politicians at one moment openly threaten violence should they lose the election, and at another, express concern about rising insecurity in the country.”

The minister added that such behavior on the part of political parties is unacceptable and must be condemned in no uncertain terms.
The security minister urged Ghanaians to rest assured that the National Election Security Task Force is ready to provide adequate security against potential electoral violence and other acts of lawlessness.
