The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensah, has offered assurance to Ghanaians about the commissions’ preparedness to ensure a successful election process on December 7.
Madam Jean Mensa made this statement today at a virtual forum organized by Penplusbytes on the theme, “Towards a Free, Fair and Peaceful Election: Who is doing what?”.
She announced that the commission is 97% prepared for the December exercise.
“The Electoral Commission is ready for the 7 December election. We have deployed our staff to most of the districts with logistics,” Jean Mensa disclosed.
She emphasized that the commission has put measures in place to ensure that the electorates observe the Covid-19 protocols.
“Because of Covid-19, we have reduced the number of voters at all polling stations. Formerly the voter threshold was about 850 per polling station but now, our threshold is a little above 700.”

According to her, this would help prevent issues of overcrowding at the voting day.
The Spokesperson of former President John Dramani Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, in her presentation at the forum stated that the NDC shall take the responsibility to educate their members and the party’s supporters to be very decent and vigilant on the day of the polls.
She further entreated the Electoral Commission to ensure that all the measures they have in place for a free and fair election are well implemented to avoid all manner of misunderstandings. She said the NDC is just looking forward to an election that is free and fair.
The upcoming December election shall be the 8th election held under Ghana’s fourth republic.
