Election 2024: Former Vice President of National House of Chiefs calls for forensic audit of voters register
In an exclusive interview at his royal residence, Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII stressed the importance of auditing the register to ensure a transparent, free, and fair election in Ghana.
Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, the Paramount Chief of the Abeadze Traditional Area and former National Vice President of the House of Chiefs, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a forensic audit of the voters’ register ahead of the December 7 elections.
In an exclusive interview at his royal residence, Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII stressed the importance of auditing the register to ensure a transparent, free, and fair election in Ghana. He argued that such a step is vital for maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
He also urged the National Peace Council of Ghana to encourage the EC to consider the demands of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and various Civil Society Organizations, which have been calling for a similar audit.
Dasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII further warned that the EC’s credibility could be jeopardized if it continues to dismiss requests for a forensic audit. He called upon chiefs, stakeholders, and security agencies to rally together and advocate for an independent review of the voters’ roll to guarantee peaceful and fair elections.
He concluded by affirming that allowing a forensic audit would significantly bolster the integrity of the election process.
