In a surprising turn of events in the Pru East Constituency, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) finds itself in disarray as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Hon. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, also known as Lord Boam, makes significant strides into areas traditionally dominated by the NPP.

Historically, the NDC has consistently won both presidential and parliamentary elections in Pru East since the beginning of Ghana’s Fourth Republic in 1992. Despite this, the NPP has maintained pockets of strong support within the constituency, where they have traditionally secured victories in each election cycle.

However, these NPP strongholds are now under intense pressure as the December 2024 elections approach. During recent community engagements, Lord Boam visited areas like Kojo Boffour, Kachawura, Cherepo, Yeji Zongo, and Parambo No-1—communities long considered NPP territories. Surprisingly, many residents, believed to be NPP loyalists, defied party expectations by attending NDC events. They voiced concerns about the lack of clear policies from their NPP Parliamentary Candidate, stating they are yet to hear a compelling vision for the future.

Some community members also expressed dissatisfaction with their NPP candidate, alleging that he has relied on tactics such as money distribution, significant contributions to funerals, and other activities to win favor, rather than presenting a strong policy-driven agenda. They believe that the 2024 election will be won on the basis of substantive issues and sound policies, not financial inducements.

Lord Boam’s campaign has focused on tackling key issues like unemployment, poor road infrastructure, and inadequate healthcare—long-standing concerns for voters in Pru East. His message of hope and change has resonated deeply, leading to a significant erosion of support for the NPP in these areas.

With the December 2024 elections looming, the NPP is scrambling to regain its foothold and consolidate its support base. However, the momentum behind the NDC candidate is proving difficult to counter.
