Hundreds of people have been displaced with their homes and belongings destroyed following tidal waves that swept through Blekusu – a predominantly fishing community in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region on Wednesday. The ravaging sea water also affected the main road connecting Denu and Keta.
Some of the residents took to the streets to register their displeasure over the seeming neglect of the communities along the coast as the situation is perrineal and recurs almost annually.
Some of the residents who spoke with ghananewsonline.com.gh called on the government to expedite work on the Blekusu sea defense wall currently under construction claiming that the project was taking forever to complete. They also called for the extension of the project to the Aflao boader.

Ketu South Municipal Chief Executive, Edem Eliot Agbenorwu, who was accompanied by NADMO officials to assess the situation said his outfit and indeed government was aware of the plight of the coastal dwellers and that all efforts were being made to find a lasting solution to this perrineal problem.
Contrary to the assertion that the people have been abandoned, Agbenorwu said the sea defense wall project was still ongoing and expressed the hope that the project will be completed sooner than later to bring relief to the residents. He assured the people of government’s commitment to improve the living conditions of all coastal dwellers and indeed the rest of the population.
