It was all joy when the Chiefs, people, student, security agencies and the government officials of the Asene-Manso-Akroso District gathered at the Akroso Senior High School to observe the commemoration of the 63rd Independence day of Ghana.
The independence parade which was observed on the theme “consolidating our gains” saw the participation of five military cardets from the Senior and Junior high Schools and about 15 schools across the District, as well as security personnel, among others.
In his speech the District Chief Executive, Alex Incoom, called on Ghanaians to cherish and patronise made in Ghana goods as we celebrate variety of clothes that constitute Ghanaian fashion, the variety of food produced in Ghana after acknowledging the implementation of planting for food and jobs and planting for export and rural development.
According to the DCE the celebration of Ghana’s 63rd Independence at Akroso is in fulfillment of a promise made last year during the celebration at Manso. He reminded the gathering of their duty to sustain the peace we are enjoying in the country.
“Fellow Ghanaians, let me remind all of us, that being a Ghanaian comes with obligations, each one of us has to work progressively in making Ghana a better and Happy nation. It is incubent on us to ensure that peace prevailed at all times within the country. As we go to the polls come December 7 let us ensure that we continue to enjoy peace before, during and after the election. I therefore enteat all eligible Ghanaians to participate their power by voting to elect our leaders and also participate in the registration of the new voter register,” he noted.
Alex Incoom also emphasized the need for the people of Asene-Manso-Akroso to participate in the ongoing Ghana card registration exercise in the Eastern Region and again the National Population and Housing Census to be organized by the Ghana Statistical Service.
As part of activities to commemorate the independence day celebration, the Asene-Manso-Akroso district assembly congratulate and awarded a certificate and a cash prize to the best performing public and private Junior High School students as well as the best public Junior High School for their performance during the immediate past Basic Education Certificate Examination, promising the assembly’s commitment to create opportunities that would allow the students to develop their potential.
Master Ohene Asante Bernard, a student of Legon Presbyterian Senior High School from Asuboah Catholic Junior high School scored aggregate 10 to win the best performing student in the public schools whilst Master Tetteh Annor Stephen currently in St. John’s Senior High School in Takoradi emerged the overall District best performing student scoring aggigrade six in the BECE.
Odumase Basic School emerged the overall best school in the District scoring 100 percent.
