According to him, it is obvious that the Electoral Commission has committed some errors on the register which he says are “deliberate” and should be resolved before it degenerates into a critical issue.

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the Electoral Commission to heed to  all the political parties on their concerns over the  voters’ register.

The NPP stalwart says the ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday was joined by other political parties who according to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also believe the register has issues which need to be addressed.

Speaking on Ghana Tonight on TV3 Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe said “the concerns of all the political parties must be seen to by the Electoral Commission.”

He stressed that “the Electoral Commission is not above the laws of this country,” adding that the said errors in the roll are intentional.

“I listened to a gentleman from my party defending the indefensible. You can see clearly from his statement that the EC has committed an error and they are not willing to correct it, an error which I will call deliberate. If it had not been detected by the NDC, we would have a different result after the election,” he stated.

He was commenting on the protest organised by the NDC against the EC over what it describes as a bloated register which it is demanding the EC to conduct a forensic audit on.

During the September 17, 2024 demonstration by the NDC to present a petition demanding the EC to conduct a forensic audit into the voters’ register, some persons, according to the leadership of the party in the Ashanti region, were injured by the police amid an alleged shooting incident in the process.

Although the police denied the claims of gunshot during the protest, the NDC Ashanti Regional Secretary, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, in a statement signed Wednesday, September 18, rejected the police account on the shooting incident.

The protest, dubbed; ‘Enough is Enough’, was carried across all the 16 regions by the party, to register its displeasure with the Commission’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the electoral roll, which the NDC says has been characterised by some anomalies, including the illegal transfer of voters which were detected during the exhibition process.
