The intrigues ahead of the 2020 presidential election has risen a notch higher with the likely emergence of a new political force as a breakaway from the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
There are reports that some top NPP officials including President Akufo-Addo, certain persons close to the founder of the NDC, and the founder of the NDC himself are in talks towards the formation of a new political party ahead of the 2020 election.
Our sources hinted that formation of the new party is part of a President Akufo-Addo and his NPP’s agenda to weaken the base of the NDC before the 2020 election.
The last four weeks have seen persons involved in the plan holding strategic meetings at various levels at which, competent sources said, significant concessions were granted by the various groups including Nana Akufo-Addo’s group to accommodate one another and move forward.
One of such meetings was held last week. Dr Ben Kunbour, Alhaji PMC, Nuamah Donkor were present. The group is said to enjoy the support of some disgruntled members and some former PNDC appointees including Comrade Koku Anyidoho.
Our sources hinted that from next week, Dr Kunbour is going to start talking on major NPP affiliated media platforms against the NDC. According to our sources, Rawlings is going to start making subtle attacks on Akufo-Addo to attract his NDC folks to his side and gain public attention.
Martin Amidu has already been handpicked to lead the Party (flagbearer) in the 2020 election to help them pull significant votes from the North.
According to our sources President Akufo-Addo and his team lead by one Victor Newman and the NDC founder’s team commenced talks on the formation of the new party after the NDC conference.
Recent pronouncements by Rawlings and Dr Kunbour give credence to this information. The sources said the group had undertaken some activities in the recent past, one of which was Dr. Kunbour’s recent interview with Accra based United Television (UTV).
The group has already been supplied with 70 pickups and three V8 (vehicles) by one Dr Asiedu an NPP stalwart.
Koku Anyidoho, the immediate past Deputy General Secretary of the NDC and some persons who describe themselves as cadres, are active part of the grand agenda. It was learnt that the leaders of the NPP moved from the ‘we can do it alone’ posture when a Research Agency based in France contracted by Nana Akufo-Addo to undertake research work on his chances in 2020, revealed that his popularity had waned.
According to our sources, the agency revealed that a united NDC led by John Mahama will make Nana’s 2020 dream impossible. This was what necessitated the idea to form a new party from the NDC to spit the party’s votes in 2020.
