“I declare that I intend to be a candidate for MP for the Mion Constituency. This means l will be contesting the NPP Primaries to elect our 2024 Parliamentary Candidate when our great Party formally opens nominations for persons interested to contest,”
A Former Mayor of Tamale Metropolitan Assembly in the Northern Region and a failed National General Secretary aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in last year’s National Delegates Conference, Iddrisu Musah Superior has declared his intention to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Mion Constituency. He made this declaration on his official Facebook page on Sunday, February 12, 2023.
“I declare that I intend to be a candidate for MP for the Mion Constituency. This means l will be contesting the NPP Primaries to elect our 2024 Parliamentary Candidate when our great Party formally opens nominations for persons interested to contest,” Mr Superior announced.
According to him his decision to contest the seat is part of the party’s mobilization effort to win the 2024 general election.
He also said his decision is also to get involved in re-energizing the base of the party towards the 2024 campaign.
“You can deny or pretend about it; election 2024 will be the toughest for our party. We need the widest and deepest mobilization drive to reposition our party in the most suitable position to win,” portions of his post read.
Mion constituency seat is currently been held by the NPP’s Musah Ayaaba Aziz who defeated the then-NDC Member of Parliament for the area, Mohammed Abdul Aziz, with 21,552 votes representing 59.08% as against the 14,158 votes of the latter representing 38.81%.
