Family Health University College has graduated 238 students and matriculated 135 fresh ones into for the 2019/2020 academic year.
This includes 54 fresh medical students and 81 Nursing and Midwifery graduates as intakes.
President and Councils Chairman of the College, Prof. Enyonam Yao Kwawukume, disclosed that one of the college’s social responsibilities is to support the needy and therefore measures have been put in place to launch an Endowment Fund in March 2020 to provide financial support for needy but brilliant students.
“It is designed that the beneficiaries of the Fund will be bonded to serve in deprived rural areas of the country, after the educational training,” he said.
He further stated that the long-term benefits of the Endowment Fund would ensure the growing enrollment of diverse group of students from low income background, to help make medical training accessible to Ghanaians and increase the doctor-patient ratio in the country to an acceptable level.
Prof. Kwawukume mentioned a number of developmental projects being undertaken to include expansion of family Health hospital for training and attachment purposes for students, a Dialysis center, Cardio-Thoracic center with well-equipped intensive care unit (ICU), larger Neo-natal intensive care unit and well-equipped emergency unit.
He also outlined projects like the expansion of hostel facilities, installation of water filtration system, reclamation of part of the sea for recreational purposes and upgrade of the Nursing and Midwifery school to run degree programmes.
He reminded the graduands of their responsibilities and urged them to inculcate into their skills professionalism. He urged the fresh students to be committed in their studies and participate in all activities of the college.
Special Advisor on Health to President Nana Akufo-Addo, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, indicated that the government is making frantic efforts to build a responsive and resilient health system to advance the country towards the path of achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
“As a top priority on national health agenda, the government through the health sector is committed to ensuring that citizens obtain the health services they need, whether prevention, promotion, treatment, rehabilitation or pollution,” he stated.
