The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has officially set the 40th National Farmers’ Day celebration for on Friday, November 8, 2024.
According to a statement by the Ministry, President Nana Akufo-Addo has confirmed the date for this annual tribute, which will take place in the Greater Accra Region.
In a departure from previous years, this year’s National Farmers’ Day will not include separate regional-level events. Instead, the main celebration and awards ceremony will take place in Accra, where farmers from across the country will gather to be recognized for their hard work and contribution to Ghana’s agricultural development.
While regional festivities have been put on hold, each region will still play a role in honouring local agricultural champions. Regional offices are authorized to select winners for ten different award categories, ensuring that notable farmers across the country receive acknowledgement.
These regional winners are expected to travel to Accra to receive their awards during a special ceremony at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
At the Awards Night, each regional winner will be honoured by their respective Regional Minister. The Ministry has emphasized that the Regional Coordinating Councils will cover all costs associated with transporting and hosting these awardees in Accra, highlighting a commitment to acknowledging local agricultural achievements on a national platform.
Furthermore, all Regional Ministers and Directors of Agriculture have been encouraged to attend the Awards Night, underlining the significance of this year’s celebration. Their attendance, as emphasized by the Ministry, is expected to add to the recognition of farmers’ pivotal role in Ghana’s progress.
The Ministry expressed hope that the national event will serve as a fitting celebration of farmers’ invaluable contributions to national development.
