FEEDING THE HUNGRY: Nigeria King in Ghana Launches Project to Feed the Poor

King of the Igbo Community in Ghana, Eze. Chukwudi Ihenetu, has launched a project christened “Feeding the Hungry Project” in Accra. The project according to him, is to support the less privileged in the Ghanaian society with one hot meal every Friday.

The renowned King said it is important to give back to society especially within a working environment where there is peace and tranquility.

The ‘Feeding the Hungry project’ is an initiative of the Ezeigbo Ghana Foundation – a non-profit organization with the aim of addressing the plight of hungry children, men and women on the streets of Accra and beyond. The foundation has over the years provided social amenities including payment of school fees for the less privileged among others in the various communities in Ghana.

Speaking at the launch, Eze. Chukwudi Ihenetu, said the rich in society must understand the need for a support system for the less privileged. This he said would reduce risks such as arm robberies and other social vices.

“If the poor are around you and you’re not helping them, they become a threat to you,” he said.

He mentioned plans of the foundation among others to include the setting up of small businesses for people especially women who want to become financially independent.

“We also want to set-up businesses for some few individuals……..it is our plan to assist at least two hundred (200) people every year. The first area we want to touch is the selling of indomie along the road,” he said, adding that “we also want to empower people to start selling pure water”.

The Nigerian King served notice that the foundation in some few weeks to come will be feeding the poor in Fadama, Nima, Teshie and some other communities across the country.

He passionate appealed to individuals and organizations that see the significance of the project to support it either in cash or kind so that more poor and needy people in the society would be reached.

The King, celebrities and other sub chiefs from the palace served the first batch of 1000 packed foods to the poor and vulnerable including the physically challenged within the American House area in East Legon, Accra.

Beneficiaries were of much appreciation towards the initiative.
