Fight against COVID-19: “Learn from Gnassingbe” – NDC Ho West Chairman Charges Akufo-Addo

Ho West Chairman of opposition National Democratic Congress, Engineer Delight Nukomeko Tettey, has belittled efforts being marshaled by the Ghanaian government in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

This follows numerous calls from all quarters in society advising the President on what particular he must engage in ensuring Ghana is seen as fighting the dreadful pandemic. His, is latest, asking that the Ghanaian leader learns from the Togolese President in dealing with the pandemic.

Faure Gnassingbe following the record of the dreadful menace in his country, released actions that comprises of “real compliance of lockdown” in the small West African country, Health emergency for three months, creation of a Special Force (FOSEP) which is Anti Pandemic in character to enforce the laws that go with the Lockdown and many other stimulus packages in favour of the poor his his country. “This is what we want to see our President doing” the NDC Chairman said.

The learned Engineer argued that, “looking at the way and manner the lockdown is being handled with reports of soldiers and police officers intimidating and assaulting innocent citizens, its clear that something doesn’t add up” he said and added that, lack of education both to the public and personnel from our security agencies must be blamed for the disagreements.

Mr Delight Nukomeko Tettey again cannot fathom why government could not make provision for the under privileged in the society by putting together strategies that could have offered food to the poor prior to the declaration of the Lockdown “considering the fact that many of our brothers and sisters live from hand to mouth” he again said.

He has therefore asked the President Nana Akufo Addo to consider an ermegency plan to cater for free delivery of food to the poor, suspension of payment of rent, electricity and water bills “while we all join hands in fighting the pandemic” he told our own reporter in a telephone interview.

Ghana has so far recorded 205 Covid 19 infected cases at the time of filing this report with few recovery cases. The West African country is seen to be battling with processea in dealing with the spread of COVID-19.

Opposition elements accuse the President of going for “sweet talks” without meaningful actions. Leader of political party All Peoples Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga claimed earlier before the Lockdown announcement that, “Nana Akufo-Addo doesn’t care about the people of Ghana. He cares about his family and friends” he said in a press conference and advised the citizens that, ” I do not foresee any serious action to come from the President in days to come……Stay at home….share the little you have with the poor” he told Journalists.
