In a bewildering display of political theatrics, Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam who is also the Member of Parliament for the Karaga Constituency, has left many scratching their heads after commissioning a light bulb—in broad daylight. The peculiar spectacle unfolded during his constituency tour, where the Minister proudly showcased various community projects. But it was the surreal image of Dr Adam ceremoniously flicking a light bulb switch under the glaring sun that sparked widespread ridicule.

Dr Adam shared the event on social media, highlighting achievements such as a newly commissioned market, nurses’ quarters in Tamalgu, and a shea butter processing facility in Zankali. However, the light bulb moment stole the show for all the wrong reasons. Photographs showed villagers, including opinion leaders, enthusiastically posing by the illuminated bulb, seemingly unaware of the absurdity of celebrating its “switch-on” in broad daylight.

Critics online have labelled the act as a tone-deaf publicity stunt, questioning the logic and optics of such a display, especially given Dr Adam’s previous portfolio as Energy Minister, a position that required strategic oversight of the nation’s power infrastructure.
