First advanced neurosurgical hospital in West Africa to be constructed in Ghana – Bawumia

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has disclosed that an advanced neurosurgical hospital for the treatment of brain-related diseases will soon be constructed in Ghana, ABC News can report.

Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, who contended that the health facility will make Ghana a focal point for referrals from across the world, made this revelation after receiving the President of the Chinese Neurosurgical Board, Professor Ling Feng at the Presidency in Accra.

The delegation that met the Vice President included Edward Boateng, Ghana’s Ambassador to China and Dr. Isabella Opoku, a Ghanaian Resident Neurosurgeon and a philanthropist.

The delegation held deliberations with the Vice President, which focused on, among others, the establishment of an advanced Neurosurgical Hospital in the country.

According to the Vice President, this hospital after it’s establishment would be the first of its kind in the West African sub-region.

He added that the state of the art facility after it’s completion will provide advanced neurological healthcare for Ghana and beyond.

He, therefore, assured that the government is highly committed to the construction of such edifice and iterated the need to urgently finish all processes for work to commence.

“Unfortunately, advanced neurological treatments are not available in West Africa because of the absence of such state-of-the-art facilities and this will be good for Ghana. We are going to move quickly to ensure the construction and operation of this neuroscience hospital”, Vice-President Dr. Bawumia said.
