Fisheries Ministry Warns of Strict Enforcement During Closed Fishing Season

he Fisheries Enforcement Unit of Ghana’s Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development has issued a stern warning to fishermen to adhere strictly to the ongoing closed fishing season.

Commencing on July 1, the 2024 closed fishing season applies to both artisanal fishermen and industrial trawlers. It is aimed at replenishing marine resources. Commodore Francis Ayiteyvi Nyarko, the unit’s national coordinator, assured the deployment of sufficient personnel along the coast to monitor compliance.

“We have mobilized personnel from the Marine Police, navy, and other security agencies to ensure effective enforcement,” Commodore Ayiteyvi Nyarko declared during a media briefing. “Anyone found violating the closed season regulations will face legal consequences.”
