For 17 months Akufo-Addo refused to pay suppliers of food items to Ghana Armed Forces – Omane Boamah

Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah has accused the previous Akufo-Addo administration of accumulating debts and just refusing to pay food suppliers who provide food items for the Ghana Armed Forces for 17 months.

Dr Omane Boamaha said that the Mahama administration is, however, solving the problems with Parliament’s approval of the over Ghc6 billion budget of the Ministry of Defence.

We’re also moving into mechanized farming to feed ourselves in order to reduce the food bill while contributing to reducing inflation,” he wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday, March 27.

He indicated this approval is a key step that will eventually enable the Minister of Finance to begin paying the 17-month-old (August 2023 to December 2024) Ghc275 million debt owed to food suppliers of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Presentation of Food Items to the Ghana Armed Forces

Yesterday, I presented  the following food items to the Ghana Armed Forces:

Ø 5,000  5kg bags of rice,

Ø  6,255 bottles of cooking oil,

Ø 4,800 tins of  mackerel (fish), and

Ø 4,800 tins of tomatoes.

This gesture is in appreciation of the services and sacrifices of our women and men in uniform.

It is hoped that this donation will boost the morale of our troops.

Thank you, Entrepreneur and Philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama of Dzata cement fame, for supporting our efforts.

Relatedly, yesterday, Parliament graciously approved the over Ghc6 billion budget of the Ministry of Defence. I was in Parliament with my Deputy Ministe,r Brogya Genfi, our Chief Director and Service Chiefs to move the motion.

Thank you, Parliament. Thank you, Leadership and Members of the Defence, Interior and Security Committee.

For 17 months, the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government was accumulating debts, just refusing to pay food suppliers who provide food items for the Ghana Armed Forces.
