Four Dead After Car Plunged Into Owabi River
The fifth victim, a five-year-old, is yet to be found while the bodies of the rest have been deposited at a morgue.
Four persons have lost their lives after their car plunged into the Owabi River near Dapaah in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday.
The fifth victim, a five-year-old, is yet to be found while the bodies of the rest have been deposited at a morgue.
The four, identified as Helena Yassan, 40, Lordina Yassan,10, Rita Agyare, 41, and Boamah Gyasi, 28, were recovered from the car as it remained in the flooded river after the incident.
A disheartening video of the recovery effort by some young men has since gone viral on social media.
In an interview on Akoma FM, the Presiding Member of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of Ashanti Region, Francis Bobie Ansah said the accident involved a family of three including the woman driver and her children.
The rest, he said, are a female teacher and a plumber she gave a lift.
The cause of the accident still remains a mystery to unravel.
“We don’t know what caused the accident, but we got a distress call and rushed to the scene and found the car afloat. We managed to retrieve four bodies but now we are searching for one more victim which is the driver’s youngest child. We have spoken with traditional authorities to perform some rituals to aid our rescue mission. This is a black Tuesday for us,” he is quoted to have said by 3News.
