Frimpong-Boateng urges Akufo-Addo to heed calls to end galamsey

Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has urged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to listen to the growing calls from various groups and labor unions to stop the ongoing destruction of Ghana’s forests and water bodies.

 

“Heed the call of citizens, CSOs, professionals, academics, research institutions, and trade unions to bring an end to the destruction of our forest, water bodies, and associated biodiversity,” he stated.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, speaking at the climax of the Asogli Yam Festival in Ho on Saturday, warned that the very future of Ghana is in jeopardy due to the environmental damage. “The very existence and future of Ghana are at stake, and Mr. President, I know you care… Disobedience and destruction of nature cannot be endured for too long,” he added.

He also encouraged the youth of Ghana to hold leaders accountable for the challenges facing the country and urged the next government to prioritize job creation and environmental restoration.

The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, also addressed the gathering, calling on the next government to reverse negative trends in the country to promote growth and development. He emphasized the need for free and fair conditions in the upcoming elections.

 

The grand durbar, marking the climax of this year’s Asogli Yam Festival, was filled with vibrant cultural displays. Chiefs sat in state, while people of the Asogli State, dressed in colorful traditional attire, sang and danced to celebrate their heritage. The event attracted dignitaries from across Ghana and beyond.
