A severe shortage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has gripped parts of Accra, leaving residents and businesses scrambling for alternatives amid growing uncertainty. The scarcity has prompted warnings from LPG marketers that if the situation does not improve, it could lead to the closure of gas stations across the country, causing significant disruptions to daily life.

Numerous gas stations in Accra have already displayed “No Gas” signs, leaving frustrated consumers without fuel for their homes and businesses. The few stations still offering LPG are struggling to meet the overwhelming demand, exacerbating the crisis.

Speaking to Channel One News, Gabriel Kumi, Vice President of the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA), raised alarm over the worsening situation. He warned that if supplies from Bulk Oil Distributors do not improve, the majority of gas stations could be forced to shut down by the weekend.

“My checks this morning indicate that about 70% of LPG outlets in the Greater Accra Metropolis have run out of gas. If the situation does not improve, this could rise to 80%, and by tomorrow, we expect all LPG stations in Greater Accra to run out of gas,” a representative of LPGMA stated.

However, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has downplayed the crisis, claiming that the supply issue has been resolved. Despite this, consumers and marketers remain unconvinced, urging swift intervention to prevent further disruptions.

The ongoing shortage has sparked widespread concern, with calls for immediate government action to ensure that supplies are restored and the livelihoods of affected residents and businesses are safeguarded.
