The German government has reiterated its commitment and readiness to support Government of Ghana in its quest for social and economic development.
Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy, Dorothee Dinkelaker said the German government has keen interest in policies initiated by the Ghana government in the ‘Ghana beyond Aid’ agenda.
She made this known at the opening ceremony of a workshop organized in Accra by the Governance for Inclusive Development (GovID) in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD).
According to her, “Germany is recognizing the reform-orientation of Government of Ghana and is supporting the efforts with financial and technical programs”. She added that the German government has contributed to the “ambitious goal of making Ghana’s economy able to stand on its own feet and ending the country’s reliance on development assistance in the medium term as it is framed in the vision of a ‘Ghana beyond Aid’.
The GovID in it desire to improve the efficiency and effectiveness in local revenue mobilization and financial management at the local level, has begun an operational planning workshop. This workshop is to set goals and targets for year 2020 implementation.
Country Director of GIZ, Regina Bauerochse Barbosa in her statement said, “the vision of GIZ is to shape a future worth living around the world”. The vision she said, “is corresponding to the goal of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”, she added.
She further touched on the eagerness of Ghana to achieve the SDG’s. “I know that Ghana is particularly eager to be the frontrunner in achieving the SDG’s by 2030 as your president is the co-chair of the SDG advocates”.
Head of budget development at the Ministry of Finance (MoF), Alex Kwarteng stated that the year 2020 is very significant and crucial to government due to the General elections.
He added that chunk of budgetary allocations goes into elections in an election year. He however added that the MoF is taking cautious efforts to work within the allocated budget.
Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Kwasi Boateng Adjei applauded the team for organizing the workshop.
The GovID is a module commissioned by the German government with support from the GlobalAffairs of Canada. It seeks to support efforts of reforming the Country’s public financing management for national development.
