Getty Cute Designs Institute Clears Graduation Backlog
“Come Improve Upon Your Skills,” Manageress Declares
Getty Cute Designs Institute, renowned for its expertise in training skilled apprentices in dressmaking, has embarked on a series of graduation ceremonies to address what it described as a backlog of awaiting graduates.
The first in this series was held last Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Adusa Quarters in Mayera, near Pokuase in the Ga-North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. The colorful ceremony celebrated the senior-most awaiting graduate, Grace Mensah, and attracted notable personalities, including London-based Ghanaian restaurateur Kofi Mokase.
Graduation Backlog and Plans
Addressing the gathering, Madam Gertrude Amponsah, affectionately called Maa Gertie, and Manageress of the Institute, revealed that four additional graduates are scheduled to pass out soon, pending the availability of funds. She assured the audience that the Institute is well-recognized, with accreditation from the Registrar General’s Department and the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI).
A Comprehensive Training Approach
Maa Gertie explained that students undergo both theoretical and practical training in various designs, including:
- Kaba and Slit
- Skirt and Top
- African Wear
- Wedding Gowns
- Lady Suits
The apprenticeship program spans 6 months to 3 years, depending on the apprentice’s performance and ability. Graduates receive certificates from both NVTI and the Institute, affirming their readiness to compete in the modern and advanced fashion industry.
Encouraging aspiring dressmakers, Maa Gertie emphasized the importance of skill enhancement and extended an open invitation to all, regardless of their current expertise. “No matter your level, you can start from scratch and build your skills here,” she assured.
Support for Graduates
While blessing Grace Mensah, Maa Gertie promised her continued support and guidance. “You may be passing out, but you have not fallen apart from me. You can call on me anytime,” she said. She praised Grace for her obedience and dedication during her three-year apprenticeship and urged other apprentices to emulate her exemplary qualities.
Gratitude from Family
Grace’s family expressed their heartfelt appreciation to Maa Gertie for her patience and dedication. The family spokesperson, who also served as the DJ for the occasion, remarked on the challenges of training an apprentice. “Teaching a grown-up apprentice for three years is no small task. As a teacher myself, I understand the challenges of even teaching schoolchildren, let alone adults,” he said.
Call to Action
Maa Gertie encouraged all dressmakers to improve their skills at the Institute, emphasizing that the doors of Getty Cute Designs Institute are open 24/7 to anyone ready to enhance their craft.
