The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) has generously donated two brand new dialysis machines along with accompanying chairs to the Renal Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. This gesture comes in response to recent media reports highlighting the struggles faced by kidney patients in accessing life-saving dialysis treatments.

The donation, valued at $112,000, was accompanied by a cheque for ¢200,000, as part of GACL’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. This support is timely, as the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has been struggling with limited dialysis equipment to meet the needs of patients in Accra and surrounding regions.

During the presentation, Managing Director of GACL, Ms. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, noted that recent media coverage on the shortage of dialysis equipment at Korle Bu inspired them to take action. The donation, which includes two dialysis machines and chairs valued at 1.9 million Ghana cedis, aims to help alleviate some of the challenges faced by the hospital. Additionally, Ms. Opare announced that GACL will cover the treatment costs for 50 patients, offering them free dialysis for one month.
