Ghana Armed Forces To Deploy Military Personnel To Central African Republic

The Ghana Army is equipping and will soon deploy its maiden peacekeeping Battalion to help the United Nations maintain peace and security in the strife-torn African country of the Central African Republic (CAR).
The new Ghana Battalion, made up of 450 military personnel, under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA GH1), has the 153 Armoured Regiment as the nucleus of the Battalion.
The Battalion would be mandated to:
1) protect civilians of the CAR,
2) ensure that Humanitarian Assistance reaches deprived people and areas in the country,
3) ensure the creation of a stable environment to facilitate political processes and dialogues for the peace agreement signed to be effectively implemented,
4) support the security sector reforms as well as the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration (DDR) processes, and
5) to serve as the MINUSCA Force Commander’s Reserve.
