Ghana Card: NIA investigates over 110k Ghanaians for double registration

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has commenced investigation into circumstances leading to 110,936 Ghanaians attempting multiple registration for the Ghana Card.

Addressing the Assurances Committee of Parliament on Monday, August 26, 2024, the Executive Secretary of the NIA, Prof. Ken Attafuah, noted that the Authority has withheld the cards.

“We have a total of 110,936, as the number of Ghanaians who have attempted multiple registration whose cards have gone into delinquency and are being investigated,” he stated.

The Authority has successfully registered over 18 million Ghanaians on the National Identify Register (NIR), with over 151,000 cards still pending for printing.

“The total number of cards not issued to Ghanaians as of the date of compilation of this report which was August 20, 2024, is 559,457 and cards cleared and ready to be printed stands at 151,896,” he added.

On the pending cards, Prof. Attafuah explained that the NIA owes its technical partners, a reason the printing of the cards has delayed.

He revealed that the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) both owe the NIA $58m and GHC288m, respectively.
