Founding President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the think-tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has given voice to his frustration over the dodgy behavior of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Adukwei Mensa, and the Supreme Court’s seeming facilitation of her escape from accountability.
In a post, Mr. Cudjoe, a respected voice in Ghanaian public discourse describes the current state of affairs in the country as “crazy.”
He points out that, Lawyer for former President Mahama, Tsatsu Tsikata is strongly advocating that Jean Mensa be made to provide insights into the strangest declaration of election results in Ghana’s history, but everybody else at the Supreme Court is shielding Adukwei.

He points out that not only does such an orchestration set a bad precedent for the future, it disburden the controversial EC boss who is believed to have been corrupt in office from being accountable for money she may have wasted or stolen.
Mr. Cudjoe points out that the precedent that is being set will return to haunt Ghana because in the future, some over-pampered EC boss might plunge the country into chaos.
“Some small chieftain or princess with some power can abrogate contracts at will, saddle us with humongous debts or just announce election results like disco lights according to beats on the political dance floor and hide behind executive discretion to evade account.
Keep at it. One day, a small princess or chief will ERASE our existence. Tsatsu won’t be there to tell you, I told you so. Crazy country.”
Meanwhile, Jean Mensa’s getaway from accountability was sealed by the Supreme Court today, when it unanimously dismissed an application by former President John Mahama to reopen his case so he could subpoena her to give evidence.
