Speaking at the launch, Vice President Bawumia underscored GMX’s role in preserving Ghana’s cultural heritage while providing new opportunities for local artists.

“With our music, we are building a legacy that requires tools and platforms to ensure our artists and contributors to this vibrant industry receive their due recognition, compensation, and rightful place on the global stage,” said Dr. Bawumia.

“In this digital age, where the value of the global economy lies in digitalization, it is essential for the Ghanaian music industry to leverage such tools to monetize its talents. GMX is more than just a music streaming platform; it’s an embodiment of our culture and a support system for our artists.”

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, described GMX as a “revolution” in Ghana’s music landscape, noting its potential to amplify the nation’s cultural footprint.

“In Ghana, music is our heartbeat, a channel through which we express our stories, tradition, and unity,” said Mercer. “Launching GMX is a celebration of our media heritage and aligns with the government’s mission to advance the creative arts space. Platforms like GMX will showcase our culture to the world, attracting global audiences and contributing to tourism.”

Elevating the Ghanaian Music Experience
GMX brings a host of unique features to users, including early access to new releases, behind-the-scenes footage, artist interviews, and exclusive Ghanaian content from the Gold Coast era to contemporary pioneers.

A specialized recommendation engine, powered by advanced AI, ensures seamless discovery, while curated playlists and social media integration allow users to share their favorite tracks and connect with others.

The platform’s CEO, Ato Tandoh, emphasized that GMX’s goal is to deepen users’ connection to Ghanaian music while introducing new sounds and stories. “Today is a great day in Ghana’s history as we unveil GMX,” Tandoh said.

“Our aim is to provide an experience that helps people connect more deeply with the music they love, while also introducing them to new sounds, artists, and parts of our history they might not have found otherwise. As we grow, we’ll continue partnering with artists, labels, and brands to bring even more exclusive content to our users.”

Platform for Cultural and Economic Growth
In collaboration with Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, GMX has secured partnerships to onboard content from national sources and address piracy, ensuring artists’ work is protected.

The streaming platform offers both free and premium subscriptions, with premium subscribers enjoying ad-free listening, offline downloads, and high-definition audio and video.

As GMX opens a digital gateway for Ghanaian music to reach global audiences, it stands not only as a platform for music but as a testament to Ghana’s rich cultural legacy and the digital future awaiting its creative industries. Available on iOS and Android, GMX is ready to redefine the Ghanaian music experience for fans around the world.
